106CCL-1 or CCL-2a Downhole CCL Amplifier PCB

The CCL-2a and 106CCL-1 Downhole Casing Collar Locator (CCL) Amplifier printed circuit boards (PCBs) are simple and reliable Comprobe style downhole CCL amplifiers suitable for use in a wide range of cased hole logging tools.  (See our Casing Collar Locator (CCL) pages for more general information.)  They use the TIP120 (or the TIP122 higher voltage rated version) Darlington transistor for very high gain.  They are normally used in 120 volt powered tools, but are jumper selectable for 30-50 volt operation.  They tolerate a wide range of CCL coil resistances unlike many other designs.  The 106CCL-1 PCB is jumper configurable to run off either armor / chassis negative or armor / chassis positive line power.  We have installed TIP120 based downhole CCL amplifiers in scores of tools, and customers often report back the vast improvement they experience over what they were previously using.  These two boards are essentially identical electronically, and both are 0.8 inches wide, but the 106CCL-1 mounts on two (2) inch centers, and the CCL-2a mounts on 2-1/8 inch centers to facilitate GO/GOI/MLS COSMOS tool installations.

The 106CCL-1 Downhole CCL Amplifier PCB is part of the 106 Radiation Tool™ PCB family.  106 Radiation Tool PCBs can be used to upgrade or repair tools, or an entire electronics section can be assembled from scratch using several PCBs (as in reworking an old tube / Nuvistor tool).  All 106 Tool PCBs use readily obtainable components, which parts will continue to be available for many years to come, and all use convenient turret terminals for wiring connections.  Due to time constraints on maintaining this website, the PCB illustrated below may not be the most recent revision of the board and / or circuit.
