The old GO single tube Gamma Ray / CCL tool gets our vote as the most amazing design for a radiation logging tool ever created.  GO managed to make the high voltage to run the Geiger-Mueller tube; process the pulses and drive the line; and even run the CCL with a single Western Electric 407A miniature vacuum tube.  The tool pictured above is a 1-7/16 inch version and still works; it was previously the property of our old friend Gene Burgener of southern Illinois.  Gene loved these tools (he had several) and continued to use them up until his untimely passing a few years ago.
